Tarangan Foundation is a Section 8 non-profit company established with the aim of empowering lives of families and individuals with special needs (SNI). The foundation is established by parents of children with special needs who are also professionals in varied fields ranging from special education, psychology to finance. They are associated with - Forum for Autism (<a href="https://www.forumforautism.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="font-size: 16px;">FFA</a>), Mumbai and Support All Abled Differently (<a href="https://saadpune.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="font-size: 16px;">SaaD</a>), Pune, India<a href="https://www.academia.edu/86482606/Facilitated_Family_Living_Note_for_Builders?sm=b" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="font-size: 16px;">Facilitated Family Living Concept</a> was developed by our Founders - Suneeta Kulkarni, Sunita Lele and Beena Modak after extensive research and review of several projects for individuals with special needs in India and elsewhere. Parul and Anand Kumtha also contributed to the development of the concept in the initial phases. Swaniketan is the project based on this concept started in partnership with <a href="https://www.pscl.in/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="font-size: 16px;">Paranjape schemes construction limited (PSCL)</a>, for a safe and inclusive community. PSCL is an ideal partner for this project because of their pioneering work in senior living (<a href="https://www.pscl.in/athashri/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="font-size: 16px;">Athashri projects</a>). Together, our mission is to create a safe environment as well as necessary opportunities for individuals with specials needs in their entire journey from the formative years through adulthood so that they can reach their fullest potential, become participatory members of their communities and live a life of safety, dignity and respect. Our vision for families is that the parents can be part of their children's life as long as feasible with support and see them transition to what would be their life after them.

Welcome to Tarangan Foundation

Our residential facility will have following infrastructure:<ol><li class="ql-align-justify">Apartment units for families with a special room for SNI. This is created in order to provide them adequate support under parental supervision in their daily activities and faciliate transitioning to a home away from the home of their parents in a building adacent to the family apartment building.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">A permanent accomodation, a group home facility created for SNI where they will transition to and live independent lives.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Cafeteria</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Respite/Day care facilities</li><li class="ql-align-justify">A range of Common Facilities &amp; Services including Special School / Vocational Centre / Livelihood Training &amp; employment/ Therapeutic Centre / Health Care and Recreational &amp; Leisure facilities</li></ol>

Safe Residential Environment

The very first Swaniketan is planned as part of the <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/aZzHsX3vZ3cUTSwM7" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Forest Trails Township</a> located at Bhugaon (Pirangut), near Pune City (approximately 10 kms from Chandani Chowk / 15 kms from Kothrud, Pune / 135 kms from Mumbai). The Forest Trails Township is spread over 180 acres.&nbsp; Swaniketan will be a gated community within this larger township with access to the amenities of the township as well as those specifically created for the care of persons with special needs. This is under construction and is located near Athashri buildings in Forest Trails.

Location

Swaniketan will aim to provide for the families of individuals on the Autism Spectrum, Down’s Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, and Cerebral Palsy.&nbsp;This special emphasis emerges from the limited initiatives available for these individuals.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Following screening criteria will be used in selecting the families to participate in the project</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Specific diagnosis and related capacity of the person with special needs</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Resources available with Tarangan Foundation to cope with the disability and other behavioural and medical issues faced by the child</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Financial means of the family&nbsp;</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Acceptance of the terms and conditions in the service agreement.</li></ul>

Eligibility and screening

<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">PSCL is responsible for township facilities and charges as well as the sale of the individual family residential units. </li><li class="ql-align-justify">Co-operative societies of Wing A and B will be responsible for maintaining the Amenities of the respective buildings.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Tarangan Foundation will be responsible for the recruitment of professionals who can, in turn, provide respite/day care, teachers for a special school, vocational trainers, therapists, counsellors, etc., as well as management services for the Group Home. </li><li class="ql-align-justify">﻿Resource people Specialist panels will be formed to spearhead and provide direction to the activities to be conducted under each Special Service/Facility. The panels will include the following: Medical, Legal, Financial, Therapy, and Caregivers Panel. Parent Volunteers will also be onboarded to ensure that all required Special Services can be provided. </li></ul>

FAQs

Children and adults with cognitive &amp; related disabilities are frequently marginalized in society. Parents deal with issues related to their daily care as well as the Big Question of “What after us?” on an ongoing basis. Swaniketan Project attempts to address these issues head on through the creation of a comprehensive, multifaceted, inclusive residential community for families. The concept is rooted within the family orientation of the Indian cultural context. A place where children as well as adults with special needs (ASD/DS/IDD/CP) will be taken care of while remaining in close physical as well as emotional proximity to their families. The responsibility for their care (and indeed of the entire family) becomes a shared one with professionals available to help support the family as needed. The design of this project conceptualizes residential facilities for families as a unit, with the gradual weaning of adult persons with special needs in preparation of life post the passing away of parents (or parents’ inability to manage daily 24x7 care due to their own old age).

Community Building

Creating a loving and secure environment where children and adults with special needs thrive and feel truly valued. We aim to operate as a parent/family cooperative and ‘be there’ for ALL the children living in the community even though there will be professional caregivers employed to support us.

Creating a safe haven

This is a Parent/Family movement which implies that the parents/families will be active participants and share in the responsibility of creating and providing services needed by our families in a holistic manner. We recognize that capabilities will vary from person to person as well as depending on the stage of life they are at, but we expect each one to contribute to ensuring the ethos of the community is sustained. Active participation is key, and this has to be committed to in some concrete manner to gain entry into the community. This is a Parent/Family movement which implies that the parents/families will be active participants and share in the responsibility of creating and providing services needed by our families in a holistic manner.
